Why are the blues called blues?

Why is the Blues kind of music called Blues?

Because the original songs were written about hardship and bad luck and the writers were feeling down or "blue" about it when they wrote them. Many of the original blues artists were poor people who lived hard and had their share bad fortunes.

because they make you feel blue(sad).

Because it's melancholy and sad like the Blues.

It's usually about the downside of life and love.

it wouldn't be the blies if it were red....

Its called the blues because most of the songs are sad. Like the expression "I've got the blues". Hope that helps.

It could be because it started in the blue grass state

Listen to the lyrics. They are usually pretty sad.
