How do you use the harmonic minor scale in a blues song? |
How do you use the harmonic minor scale in a blues song? He said harmonic minor, nothing about a harmonica. There are two types of minor scales-harmonic and natural. The natural minor scale has a flat 7 (for example ABCDEFGA), while the harmonic minor has a sharp 7 (ABCDEFG#A). You would have to be playing a blues song in a minor key for it to sound good...many are actually major. are you using a cross harp? flat the 3rd and use dorian, it's all you really need to do to impress most people. Its called improvisation- there are no wrong notes- but you just don't hang around the ones that don't seem to fit unless you can play your way out of it or around it Ya know....once you do THAT...it's not "da blues" anymore. Blues is more about pentatonic "box" shape scales, not quasi-egyptian sounding stuff. But if you want examples, check out some of Yngwie's live stuff where he plays some bluesy thype things...the band anyway, since Yngwie is all about the harmonic minor...LOL! |
