My dad played on stage at a little dive bar with John Lee Hooker. I like his stuff. My dad also was in a band that opened for Muddy Waters, Pat Travers, and some others. So, actually my dad is my favorite blues artist. He plays a mean harmonica (he does a better Whammer Jammer than J. Giles!) But right now he is playing in a country rock and boogie band that has some bluesy songs.

their website is http://www.blackwater5.com so look for the harmonica player, cause that's my dad!! BTW, he's the only guy not wearing a cowboy hat on their photo.

Robert Pete Williams, Skip James, Mississippi John Hurt, Robert Johnson, Rev. Gary Davis, Son House, and Lightnin' Hopkins. I'm into older and more unusual musicians. And I'm really holding back here . . . I'm going on vacation next week--who would I grab first? And I have to mention Lucinda Williams. Her first album was nothing but blues covers. She has obviously been deeply influenced by the blues, even if few of her songs now are strictly blues. I fell in love with her music some years ago, and I was introduced to the blues through her once I found out what an influence this music was on her.

The website below is a great start for finding out more about any of these musicians, their recordings, and the blues in general.

muddy waters, robert cray, stevie ray vaughan, albert king, buddy guy, bb king, jimi hendrix, eric clapton, jeff healy ( he only does some blues, but he is good, he is also blind and plays the guitar on his lap, watch a video of him and srv playing..amazing stuff)

I like Joan Armtrading for a whole lot of different reasons than 12 bar blues...rythmically complex open tuned guitar player and soulful balladeer! "Show Some Emotion" & the self title album of hers are two of my favorite things to listen to besides blues...also like English first wave... Animals, Them, Zoobies, Chad & Jerremy, some Donavan, Yardbirds, Blind Faith (maybe best short lived band ever!) Ten Years After, then female vocal stylist like Phobe Snow,. early Linda Ronstand, Dire Straits, U2
and the odd, off beat humorist and drumerless band leader the fabulously camp accoustic warrior Mr. Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks! Early Police , Elvis Costello and the man Bruce! Cowboy Country Swing like Big Sandy and others.
Also anything Gershwin...but Rapsody in Blue by candle light with my lover...now that is good stuff!!
