Some classic delta blues bands? |
Im starting to listen to some blues, and I was wondering if I could have some guidance to some good old delta blues bands/artists. I really like Taj Mahal and John lee Hooker, so bands that play in that sort of blues style. Pinetop Perkins is possibly the last living true Delta Blues player. He lives in Gary Ind. and plays once or twice a month in Chicago blues clubs. arch enemy is great blues Delta blues bands? Never heard of any. When I think of this genre of "delta blues" I think of maybe Robert Johnson, Lightning Hopkins, (pre Chicago) Muddy Waters, Taj Mahal, Josh White Jr., Mississippi John Hurt, Mississippi Fred McDowell, (very early) Bonnie Raitt, Bukka White, Blind Willie Johnson, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee... Usually I think of an old guy singing accompanied by a lone bottleneck guitar when I think of delta blues. Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, they exemplify the "Delta Blues" style. Note that there are different types of blues styles. Texas blues, Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc., Chicago Blues, which a lot of Delta Players ended up playing-B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, etc. Delta blues artists I suggest are: Keb' Mo' is THE man Try checking out "The North Mississippi All Stars" I just got their CD Shake Hands With Shorty and it's really good. There was a profile of their bass player in Bass Player magazine a couple of years ago but they didn't say what kind of music they were into. I saw the CD and remembered the name and decided to check it out and I'm glad I did. With the stuff you said you like I'd be really surprised if you didn't like these guys. |
