Unfortunately for the blues world, yes he is dead.(1923-1992)
I have a book on Albert King, as well as a few other blues artist. Here's a little trivia for you: He bought his first acoustic guitar for $1.25, but his first guitar was one wire nailed to the wall of his house that he picked with a bottle. He influenced all the greats from Eric Clapton to Jimmy Page, but, his most notable influence was to Stevie Ray. I've got an interview on CD with SRV saying that when he started he only wanted to play like Albert King, & you can really hear it in his licks every now & then, if you listen.

OK, SRV may have revered Albert but he also emulated Jimi who was also a devotee of the Albert King blues guitar style -- Hendrix covered "GOING TO CALIFORNIA" in his pre-Experience days. Check it out.
