There are a few electric guitars on the market into which headphones can be plugged directly, but by no means all (or even most).

There are also numerous "headphone amps" on the market (starting as low as $25 or so) that have a little 9-volt battery-powered preamp in there that do what you're asking.

The best solution though is to be aware that most small amps these days have headphone jacks, so you plug your phones into the amp and get the benefit if the reverb and overdrive that most of them pack these days.

If you haven't already, check out the Boss Microcube; it has excellent onboard effects, a headphone jack, and it can be powered by either a plug into the wall or AA batteries. I have one, and we sell an awful lot of them at the guitar store I manage. They're about $125, and worth every cent and then some.

no, you cannot plug your headphones directly into the guitar. You need to get an adapter that connects to the plug on the headphones and is shaped like the end of your guitar cable you use to connect the guitar to the amp, or , most big guitar stores like guitar center or sam ash sell headphones made specially for plugging into the amp. they're about $12 - $15.

No they won't plug into the guitar. If you have an electric guitar then you need an amp. I recommend the Marshall MG15DFX. It is only about $179.00 It is what I use. It is a very small amp with built in digital effects. You can use it for all styles of music. And it has a head phone jack. I learned to play guitar while my wife and kids slept and they never knew it.

The dude who suggested the little Marshall has a pretty good idea - a friend of mine has one of those and for a small practice amp it sounds really good. Another idea is the Tom Scholz Rockman. it's about the size of a walkman so you can hook it onto your belt, and you can also plug a CD into it.

The best idea I can think of is this gizmo made by TASCAM. I know they make this unit for bass but I don't know about guitar. It allows you to play along with a CD and you can slow it down without changing the pitch to learn fast parts more easily. The bass unit costs about $200 in Canada and as a learning tool, you can't beat it.

You have to get the right headphones that will plug into your amp. The best prices I have found were at Guitar Center. I don't like the idea of buying on line. When I bought my electric I went to Guitar Center and played it for about an hour and then came back and played it some more before purchasing it.

I know how it feels.

You cannot plug head phones directly into a guitar, but you can plug them into some amps.

yessss, its possible, but you have to use a "transfer" jack. that jack has an input that is the size of the headphone's jack and the output is the same like the one you used for the amp.Other than that, it is the cheapest way to play without your fussy neigbours complaining
well, obviously you could only hear "clean" sounds

No it is not possible to directly connect it to electric guitar. You must connect it to ampflier with headphone plug most amp. has it .The quality of sound is still the same it will not change .

I want to answer this question because I got a kick out of all the answers. So, here goes.
Yes you can plug your headphones directly in to your electric guitar if they have a 1/4 inch plug on the end. Will it work? No. Will it affect the sound quality? Not of the guitar, but since your wearing headphones that are doing nothing, your hearing will be impaired a little. Hope this helps answer your question.
