Why do they call it the blues?

Why do they call it the blues?

Because that is one of the colors that a bruise turns when it hurts

u have to find out

Ask Elton John!

Don't wish it away
Don't look at it like it's forever
Between you and me I could honestly say
That things can only get better
And while I'm away
Dust out the demons inside
And it won't be long before you and me run
To the place in our hearts where we hide

And I guess that's why they call it the blues
Time on my hands could be time spent with you
Laughing like children, living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that's why they call it the blues

Just stare into space
Picture my face in your hands
Live for each second without hesitation
And never forget I'm your man

Wait on me girl
Cry in the night if it helps
But more than ever I simply love you
More than I love life itself

u know when u feel down u have the blues. the blues is the type of music that expresses those feelings less winey than country. blues is more moving more touching. blues came from the slaves, its peoples lives told in a song. more than any kind of music and i listen to more rock rap and hip hop. but blues is so much more powerful. listen to some, sometime. find a song u can connect to once. u will understand. picture wat made them write the songs they sing. blues isnt a made up story like most songs. to sing blues u have to feel blue.

chyea.

Have you heard the blues? Not many blues songs are happy songs.

Cause the colour BLUE is a "depressing" colour (except baby blue)

I think it refers to the subject matter and mood of most traditional blues songs. (As in "feeling blue")

Written and played by black musicians during the slavery and segregation eras in the US, it reflected the issues of abject poverty and as well as some issues that face all people in life......death, betrayal, and powerlessness.

I'm sure someone, somewhere, has a better, in depth explination, but that's how I see it.

In general the blues are living with oppression leaning on depression and dependent on injection. You live with it, deal with it and share it. It is an original music form in America based upon b7, b5, b3 of Maj scale.

Listen to the lyrics. Blue means sad.

It comes from the saying, "Don't hold your breath waiting for him/her to call."

Blues aint nuthin but a good man feeling bad.

Because society (puritans etc.) at one time had "blue" words which were not spoken????

you gotta have the blues to know the blues
