welcome aboard! it's great to have another fan of the blues. my personal thought of why this is becoming so popular is that it is simply the closest to what real rock & roll was like; afterall, rock came from the early artists (stones; beatles; cream; etc.) covering blues. you can't go too wrong with the genre, but it may be that you like guitar-driven blues (my favorite), in which case you'll have to do some searching. the biggest help would be if you or one of your friends has access to digital cable tv. in that is the "music choice" channels, of which blues is one. I built my library by keeping that channel on (no commercials) and whenever I would hear something I liked, wrote the artist and album title down (displayed during each song). then it was just a matter of going to a REALLY extensive record shop (no malls) or amazon.com for the selection. amazon can also help with the style of blues you like. try calling up the radio station you've been listening to, telling them you're starting out, and ask for an invite down to talk with some of the people with the knowledge to help. if you would like an extensive listing from me, let me know at sciguy54@yahoo.com; Happy Trails.

As they say, the Blues got a baby called Rock.

What kinda blues do you like?

A random hit-list: B.B King, Rory Gallagher, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton (aight this guy's blues rock), Stevie Ray Vaughan (more on the rocky side this guy), Robert Johnson (the guy who had rumour about his selling his soul to the devil), Johnny Winter, Gary Moore, John Mayall.

I can understand what you feel is your "discovery" of the blues. It is kind of sad that, White people or Black people have no appreciation/knowledge of the blues.
If you listen to a lot of rock and HM then you would know that many,if not most are influence by the blues and blues artist.
I have no idea what town you live in,near so this may not help you. I live in MD, the DC area and our blues station is WPFW 89.3. They are also on the net 24/7, I think. They have blues M-F for an hour at noon. On Sat morning from 9-4 is blues then from 4-7 Oldies. There is a Washington DC and Baltimore blues society. There is a whole bunch of blues entertainment in this area.
If you like we can chat/share bout the History and concerts I hear of from time to time. My EM is gsmcsee@yahoo.com

We have a blues staion at 90.1 that plays blues every thurs nite, i don't miss it. lots of blues hangover requests and info, check out Ronnie Baker Brookes, he is awesome.

I have one of the best blues music collections anyone would die for. There are many different styles of blues music both slow and fast.Soft and heavy.Even some rock and folk songs could be classified as blues music too.

super cool!! the blues to me are awesome. i was in high school in the late 70's and Foghat was one of my favorite bands. about twenty years later, i found out that a lot of the rock bands like zep were playing revised old blues tunes!
and the blues scales and rock scales are the same for all practical purposes. Have a great time discovering, in 85 a girl at work loaned me a SRV tape,"couldn't stand the weather", I was blessed with seeing stevie 3 times. He was great, and opened a door to a whole new world. peace!!
