Hoe many peopl ehave heard of mississippi john hurt and if so, whats your favorite song?

mississippi john hurt is my favorite blues artist and i want to know what you guys think about him

louis collins is my favorite john hurt song. then i would have to say nobody's dirty business.

Well I was a teenager when MJH was "rediscovered" (did you know he dropped out of sight for 20 or more years?). I think his versions of Candy Man, Stackolee and Creole Belle are just great. He was a wonderul musician and many have tried to copy his style. Report It

"Hoe" many peopl ???. You know Imus got fired for using that word :)), beware the Yahoo police will prolly erase your question :))

I like him a lot. He has a very soothing voice and a relaxing guitar style. He doesn't really have a "blues" singing voice which separates him from the "crowd" That gives him a uniqueness among blues singers. He can't be mistaken for Howlin Wolf for example.
Favorite song? Its almost too hard to choose. I like Stagger Lee. I also like some of his Gospel songs.

Being that I don't know how many people have heard of Mississippi John Hurt, I cannot say what my favorite song is. I mean I know what my favorite song is but, according to your question you require for me to know how many people have heard of Mississippi John Hurt before I give an answer. Anyways there's no telling how many people have head of Mississippi John Hurt. To find out for sure you would have to take on the daunted task of asking everybody in the whole world.
Good Luck!!

I have heard of him and heard some of his music, but to tell the truth I am more of a Charley Patton type. I like Jimmie Rodger's variations on the Delta Blues, also.

Mississippi John Hurt started recording in the late 1920's, when he was discovered by a musician and A&R man from Okeh/Cloumbia Records.
It wasn't until his "rediscovery" in the early 1960's, that he began to get the attention of a generation of new listeners, who were folk music afficianados.
He was a skilled, finger picking country (Peidmont) blues player, with a quiet, but powerful voice, and his recordings are almost all from after 1963.....except "Avalon Blues: The Complete Okeh Sessions". That set has some great classics, like "Stack O Lee", "Avalon Blues", "Candy Man Blues", and "Nobody's Dirty Business".
