I would like 2 know He played this REALLY cheap Sears Silvertone guitar, I swear I have never seen any musician play a bigger piece of sh!t than he did, but when he played it, man you HAD to get up and dance! The House Rockers were the greatest bar band ever! Puts a tear in the speaker of his amp.

The fuzz guitar effect pedal is intended to recreate the classic 1960's tone of an overdriven tube amp combined with torn speaker cones. Oldschool guitar players would pick up a screwdriver and poke several holes through the paperboard part of the guitar amp speaker to achieve a similar sound. I have to agree w/both...in all respects. Hound Dog & the Houserockers were the best! Alligator Records was basically formed to record this man and his band.
I know the sound came from the cheesy Japanese guitar he played, AND his cracked amps...some words from Bruce Iglauer, founder of Alligator and Hound Dog's manager.
http://www.keno.org/hound_dog_taylor/not... Gimme Back My Wig!!! The best!. Yep. Cheap equipment. People nowadays would kill for Hound Dog's tone, but what he did was really quite simple, technically speaking.
He played either Sivertone guitars, or Japanese equivalents....no Telecasters or Strats for the Dog.
He also used small amps that had to be turned up all the way "to 11", if possible.
He may have started the set somewhat sober, by by mid-set, he had a serious buzz....and played it as felt it should be played.
Hound Dog was the sole reason Bruce Iglauer started Alligator Records, never realizing he was creating a great legacy of "genuine houserockin' music".....after 10 years, Bruce began to understand that others felt the need to hear Chicago Blues, too. 36 yrs. later and Iglauer has the premier Chicago Blues, blues-rock, and roots rock label. He's got to have the best back catalog of Windy City blues from 1972 thru today, way too many for me to namecheck. |
