Can white men play the blues? |
Can white men play the blues? anyone can play the blues. I think ANYONE can play the blues if it is in their hearts and soul. Perhaps it comes more naturally to black people due to them being around it so much on a near on daily basis. Jimmy Rogers and Hank Williams sure did. im a 36 y/o white male and have been playing guitar for almost 25 years now and i love the blues so i'd say yes rock on : ) yes of course they can Listen to a guy named Walter Trout! The man is outrageous!! Give a listen to I'm Tired, off of his Relentless CD. If you love screeming blues guitarists. You'll love Trout! I've been playing blues music for 40 years. I am white. I have been told by some that I sound black. I must admit, I took it as a compliment. Really though, it shouldn't matter. Phrasing of musical notes knows no color. ever heard of ERIC CLAPTON???? i rest my case lol yes you should try johnny lang song lie to me, and of course Eric Clapton with BB king. Have a listen to the recording by Dick Justice - "Cocain" - 1929 Yes. There are very talented whie blues artists: Eric Clapton, Dr John, Jonny Lang, Bonnie Raitt, John Hammond Jr. and others. Can black men play the blues? Of course, white men and women can play blues. So can anyone who's even been deeply moved by what the singer's saying, or the instrumentalist's are playing. I hope so, otherwise I've wasted a lot of time. Here's a couple more white blues greats not listed above: James Harman, Nick Curran, and Nick Moss Yes, there are some very good white blues men and women. If you really love the blues you love them all. Why can't they? As far as I know, there is no prohibition and penalty whatsoever against white men playing blues. Hi Jon, Yes they can if they get deep into their souls it will be great!!! Rory Gallagher, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jonny Winter to add to the list... Rolling Stones white?Johnny Winter white ? come on ! John Mayall's Bluesbreakers album with Eric Clapton answers your question. Listen to Mayall's voice on that... and his harmonica. Most definitely. Eric Clapton is at his best playing the blues and Joe Bonamasse - don't know if I've spelt that right, from Bloodline, stunning. Think he was 15 when the album was recorded Can white men play a three-chord progression that starts on the first of the scale, goes to the fourth of the scale, and then goes to the fifth of the scale, and has a lot of variations on that? Yes they can. How do I know? I do - I'm a blues rock guitarist, and I'm a bit on the white side. listen to gary moore eric clapton and van morrison and you decide my opinion yes Yes, but they can't equal the black man's artistry and soul. Same with Jazz. absolutely! How about Eric Clapton, Paul Butterfield, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Mayall, Jeff Beck,to name a couple. Great question, you know that already by the response. Of course we can. To say we can't would be as bad as saying that black people can't play classical or rock, I know from experience that they can. Most of popular rock derives from the the blues and i would say it sounds good to me (within reason, that's another debate). STEVIE RAY VAUGHN Check out the best pre-Hendrix guitar player Mike Bloomfield. What about the wonderful John Mayall who lived in a tree. Better than that charlatan Clapton. |
