Who is you favorite blues artist?

Who is you favorite blues artist?

how could anyone pick a favorite????? Walter trout, Susan tedeschi, john mayall,BB king,Jeff heally, Robert Cray, Larry McCray, Stevie ray Vaughn, Carlos Santana, coco Montoya, koko Taylor, johnny Lang, jimmy rogers, jimmy thackery & the drivers, charlie musselwhite, chris cain, luther allison, john lee hooker, muddy waters, bobby bland, buddy guy, albert collins, should i keep going.. the list is endless..

I'm not sure if it's really blues...but I would have to go with Billie Holiday. I think her voice is so sad and sweet. My favorite song of hers is Me, Myself, and I...which isn't really bluesy but her song Good Morning Heartache and Lover Man Oh Where Can You Be are really great. Most of her songs are sad so I guess she would be considered blues. If not blues then jazz...but to make a long story short I pick Ms. Holiday.

........of all time........
BB King

Stevie Ray Vaughn!!!!
And chick vocalist, I love Susan Tedeschi !!!

hard question but for down home funky blues that makes u stop and listen, paul butterfield has got to be way up there along w his original guitarist michael bloomfield

Robert Johnson, listen to Hellhound on my Trail. It still gives me the chills.

OMG, thats almost impossible to answer. I like BB, Gatemouth, Little Walter, Leadbelly, Howlin Wolf, Bo Didley, Dr John, Robert Johnson, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray....the list is endless. But to name a favorite...I just cant do it.

Not really a favourite as there are so many greats, but go with John Mayall

T. Bone Walker

The blues brothers 4 sure!
Joliet Jake(John Belushi)
Ellwood(Dan Akeroyd)

Muddy Waters.....a great vocalist, writer, guitarist, and performer. His Chess singles and albums set the tone for electric Chicago Blues, and his later releases on Blue Sky showed he still had the goods in the mid 70's, despite age and a bad car accident in 1968.....any doubt should be erased by his recently released "Tearin' It Up, Tearin' It Down" on Columbia's Legacy label.
What a band.....Pinetop Perkins, Bob Margolin, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Charles Calamese, James Cotton, Johnny Winter, and Muddy himself. Chicago blues doesn't get much better than that!

John Hammond Jr.

Being a guitar player, Mike Bloomfield!

Well, I have several. Let me try it this way...
Early Blues: Robert Johnson
50's Blues: Snooky Pryor
60's pure Blues: Freddie King
60's Rock Blues: Cream
70's : Allman Brothers
Other than that would be something like, Gov't Mule, Eric Clapton, Roy Buchanan, Johnny Winter. The best of all of them though when you consider writing and playing ability and the fact that he is still on the road is Robin Trower.

Let's never forget Mike Bloomfield!

Muddy Waters or Howlin' Wolf

Agree with everyone that you can't really pick out a favourite. I love the blues and am trying to listen to and learn more. Great to see so many on YA interested too.
Notice that no one has mentioned so far some of the lesser known oldies like Snooks Eaglin or Jesse Fuller.
Or for that matter the great Bessie Smith?

bessie smith

James Anthony he is in Burlington Ontario and I have never heard a better guitarist.
He is wonderful look at his site and play some of his music.
He is great
E

Muddy Waters, Otis Rush, Jerry Portenoy, Little Walter ( was kind of a creep though) and Big Walter Horton (aka Shakey Jake Horton). In that order.

Today I'll say John Lee Hooker.

I dont think anyone's said albert king yet. come on, playing the way he did with the strings upside down is just incredible.
Jimi Hendrix also threw down some good blues.
