Who are some of your favorite artists? What radio stations do you listen to (internet or otherwise)? Where are you located?
Also - I need a drummer and a bass player - any takers in NE Wisconsin? I play guitar, have good gear, can sing, write originals, and have decent "chops". Thanks!!!
Paul Add: What I do is VERY similar to the Black Crowes - I like their "philosophy" of "never the same way twice". I am an improvisational guitarist, so the Black Crowes and I would get along just fine. My favorite blues-rock artist is Gary Moore, who can play straight blues and blues-rock with equal ability. I've been buying his albums since 1984, when he was playing metal/hard rock, and with "Still Got The Blues", I saw what a complete artist he was. A great player AND vocalist.
Rory Gallagher and "Irish Tour '74" really showed me how he understood blues and rock could be mixed with great results. I wish he was still with us.
Roy Buchanan was THE Telecaster monster. Supposedly he turned the Stones down after Mick Taylor left, but he felt he had to follow his muse. His Polydor/Atlantic albums were absolute killers and, when he switched to Alligator, it only turned up the heat. I saw him on his "Hot Wires" tour, which was the best guitar-based tour (including Jimi's), just a few months before his passing....he was on fire, never played or sounded better, and was a master of the music.
Last, but maybe first, was Tommy Bolin. He wasn't very well known and died after only recording 2 official solo albums. Bolin replaced Joe Walsh in the James Gang and Richie Blackmore in Deep Purple.....what a load to follow!
For an unknown guitarist, he was the only picker to have a boxset created for his abilities.
Many pro musicians loved this guy because he cold play anything.....any time. He played hard rock, fusion, jazz, blues, acoustic, reggae, funk, soulful music, and prog rock within the space of only a couple of albums, within less than 2 years.
He was the closest player to Hendrix I've heard, in terms of his improv, writing, flawless playing, variety, unique vocals, arranging, vulnerable vocals, and vision.....DON'T MISS HIS RECORDINGS !! i think the Black Crows are very underrated as a blues/rock band. they are rockin. i live in kansas city, and we have a really cool historic downtown blues and jazz district at 18th and Vine, where there are a lot of blues clubs and live music. 101.1 the fox has a blues show every sunday night for the last like 20 years or so. Oh absolutely!
I live in Massachusetts and on Sunday mornings from 9-12, the station WZLX (100.7) out of Boston plays "the Sunday Morning Blues - With Carter Allen". It is the best because you get a chance to hear a ton of artists that you just don't hear every day on the radio.
I had the great pleasure of seeing Buddy Guy this past spring at B.B. King's House of Blues in NY and it was just amazing. He played while strolling through the entire audience so that EVERYONE had to chance to touch him or shake his hand.
Stevie Ray Vaughan - I had the opportunity to see him perform 3 times and I have never seen anyone play the way he did.

Oh, I could go on and on! I like Blues, mainly Marvin Sease, Peggy Scott-Adams, Denise LaSalle, Jonnie Taylor,etc. I went to see BB King a few years ago and this dude named Joe Bonamassa opened for him. If you get a chance, go see Joe live. I have about 5-6 times now. He'll blow your socks clean off. Hell yeah, blues-rock is my first love in music. Here are a few artist picks. There aren't any real blues rock stations out here, but 105.7 The Hawk plays these bands every now and then.
