What good films are there that feature the Blues or have the Blues as its subject matter?

I already have Crossroads and O Brother Where Art Thou - great films.

The PBS films

Feel Like Going Home by Martin Scorsese
The Soul of a Man by Wim Wenders
The Road to Memphis by Richard Pearce
Warming by the Devil's Fire by Charles Burnett
Godfathers and Sons by Marc Levin
Red, White & Blues by Mike Figgis
Piano Blues by Clint Eastwood

If you are interested in the Delta style a documentary "Deep Blues" is real good.
"This movie is a documentary showing the evolution of a musical style. Fortunately for the viewer, it is also an opportunity to see some of the practitioners of that style in much footage never before released. A must-see for devotees of the style, enlightening and entertaining for others. The effective use of interviews, physical tours of the birthplaces of the music and lengthy performances give the viewer quite an overview of this music and its practitioners. An illuminating look at the gutsy and raw Delta-inspired music."

LADY SINGS THE BLUES (about Billie Holiday) starring Diana Ross

ah damn .... I forgot the name of it...the black man who is blind.... well yeah, that would be a good one. If anyone reads this and knows the name go ahead and put it down. I hope this helped....sorry about my brain-fart :-(

The recent documentary Lightning In A Bottle is a must for anybody liking the blues. All the living masters showed up to play.

There are plenty of great blues movies...
Blues brothers of course
Lady sings The Blues
Genghis Blues
Ray..I think is the movie one of the other posters was referring to but couldnt recall the name of..

Even more if you just like the blues music within the soundtrack.
Hope that helps

Martin Scorsese produced several WONDERFUL documentaries on the blues.

Also check out a movie about Leadbelly (can't think of the title off-hand).

"be here to love me" townes van zandt

Not that I recommend it but the awful movie Roadhouse has an apperance by Jeff Healy, actually he has a small role in it. I did like Crossroads. Many people will list the Blues Brothers but the music is more soul than blues, John Lee Hooker is in it though and others like Duck Dunn. Sorry I can not really help, will be watching for good answers though. Thanks for the question.

The recent movie "Black Snake Moan" has a lot of blues music in it. I haven't actually seen it, but heard it was prety cool.

I would suggest crossroads too. That kid from the karete kid is in it.

"RAY", - the biopic, on the life of the late, GREAT, RAY CHARLES!
