Was Roy Buchanan God?

After listening to "The Messiah Will Come Again," I am beginning to believe he was.

Well, we don't really want to give deity status to just anyone, do we? Roy was a gifted guitarist with lots of raw emotion evident in his playing. He was also a tortured soul.

I have a very vivid memory of seeing him in Alexandria VA on a 12/31/75-01/01/76 New Year's eve concert. Another of his students, Nils Lofgren, opened the show. His closing number was 'The Messiah Will Come Again', which he played while slowly walking backstage. He must have had a 100-foot cord, because he was nowhere in sight, but his guitar was wailing! This of course was before the days of wireless.

He left us Danny Gatton, his foremost disciple, who carried Roy's music even further. Alas, Danny met his fate also.

Couldnt be. There was no god

Better yet, was Danny Gatton the spirit of Roy Buchannan?

How could he be, everybody knows Clapton is God...errr was that good. :)

To some people he was,but to alot of people Eric Clapton was also god.but alot of people didn't take the news that well, when John Lennon said "The Beatles are bigger than god now".He didn't mean it that way,(he was referring to beatlemania)but as usual the press jumped all over John's statement, causing chaos, fans were burning beatle records, posters etc.

I love his version of "Hey Joe."

He's certainly one of the faces in the Valhalla of Guitar. Though, during his time on Earth Rolling Stone called him "The Best Guitarist You've Never Heard."

a strange question. people get mixed-up: someone's who's a virtuoso on guitar, for example, is popularly called a 'guitar god'. small 'g'. like, seemingly superhuman abilities -- but if literally deifying someone, borderline sacrilegious; many guys are great at what they do, & that's about it -- they're gifted -- & that's a clue, gifts come from a giver -- who? the Almighty. end of sermon.

Apart from "Livestock",a good and tight live album,he was then very together. Confined to the studio,he was even better, that Steve Cropper produced record "Loading Zone" which contained 'Heat of the Battle' was pure genius, plus Steve and Roy on 'Green Onions'...But I saw him once..at a big gig..he was swigging from a whiskey bottle all night...and the solos kept on and on and on ,going nowhere except louder. It was sad.In the studio,he could have come close.

Hardly.

Although he is a FINE guitar player, and CERTAINLY underrated!!!!

He is not a god like the old masters. Check out Blind Blake, Blind Willie Johnson, Robert Johnson, and cats like that.
