I hate the blues. Why? |
I used to love it, yet when listening to a song about how they lost their job, had to travel and can't pay rent and feel like the singer is talking about you, it gets depressing. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to learn to play the blues. An musician once said, I rather sing the blues and move through the hard spots in my life then actually have them I think you looked at the blues as entertainment, now that you have the blues you really need to look at the music in it's true form and how it originated. Slaves in the south would sing the blues to express their pain and pass a long hard day of work. As time passed the daily frustrations of every day life would be lamented by singing about them in a blues song. I hope you can begin to "feel" the music. If you can I guarantee it will help you during trying times. Good luck to you. Well........if it's any consolation......probably most of the newer blues tunes are written by upper middle class or rich musicians whose biggest life challenge has been whether to get the Mercedes, or the BMW!!!!!!!!! Well, all I can tell you is that your are somehow missing out on the therapeutic effect of the blues. The blues is about healing. You sing about these things because they hurt, and in singing ... you feel empathy and healing. I love the blues, its one of my favorite music genres and I have NEVER found it to be depressing at all, even if they are singing about bad stuff in their life. The music for me is so into the soul and I truly enjoy listening to a good blues song. Yeah, sometimes it's almost too much to listen to those kind of slow, really sad blues songs... |
