Can anyone give me a recommendation on late 60s blues recordings by the Chess Legends? |
I know that Muddy Waters, Little Walter and Bo Diddley made an album called SUPERBLUES in 1968. Waters also did an album called ELECTRIC MUD. The Electric Mud album is not Muddy at his best.It was an attempt by the Chess brothers to cash in on the 60's effects-laden stuff. The title of the Muddy,Bo and Howlin' Wolf album was called Super,Super Blues Band(I think).Look for that one. Also find the Father And Sons expanded cd.It contains live performances by Muddy and what is pretty much the Paul Butterfield Band(with Mike Bloomfield on guitar) as well as the studio set.Another 60's Muddy Waters album worth a listen is "Folk Singer".It's Muddy,Willie Dixon on bass and a young Buddy Guy on guitar. Thanks, Michael R. Yours was the best comment with a lot of information and a lot of guidance. You know a lot about blues. I have a further question... Report It Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Big Bill Broonzy, Lowell Fulson, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, Elmore James, Etta James - they all recorded with Chess at some point. Check out their histories to find some recordings. Your best bet is to find some compilations of these artists. Not all chess, but here's some great cuts from the late 60's In 1997, MCA/Universal reissued a collection called 'The Chess Blues-Rock Songbook' that contains cuts by Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Bo Diddley, Elmore James and many more. This is a double-CD set, catalog # CHD2-9389. These are songs from 1947 on, but there are some 60s tunes in there. |
