Can anyone give me a recommendation on late 60s blues recordings by the Chess Legends?

I know that Muddy Waters, Little Walter and Bo Diddley made an album called SUPERBLUES in 1968. Waters also did an album called ELECTRIC MUD.

The Electric Mud album is not Muddy at his best.It was an attempt by the Chess brothers to cash in on the 60's effects-laden stuff. The title of the Muddy,Bo and Howlin' Wolf album was called Super,Super Blues Band(I think).Look for that one. Also find the Father And Sons expanded cd.It contains live performances by Muddy and what is pretty much the Paul Butterfield Band(with Mike Bloomfield on guitar) as well as the studio set.Another 60's Muddy Waters album worth a listen is "Folk Singer".It's Muddy,Willie Dixon on bass and a young Buddy Guy on guitar.
The expanded London Howlin' Wolf Sessions with Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood is an excellent choice. The London Muddy Waters Sessions feartured Rory Gallagher on guitar, but are nowhere near as good as the Howlin'Wolf ones.
Any of the Howlin'Wolf albums/cds you find are worth the price.
Buddy Guy was mainly a session player for Chess records in the 60's.Wang Dang Doodle by Koko Taylor had Buddy on guitar. At the time his sound was more in the style of Magic Sam than it was Clapton or Hendrix. The early stuff by Junior Wells on Delmark Records had Buddy on guitar.Hoodoo Man Blues is the album name.
Hopefully this gives you a start.

Thanks, Michael R. Yours was the best comment with a lot of information and a lot of guidance. You know a lot about blues. I have a further question... Report It

Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Big Bill Broonzy, Lowell Fulson, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, Elmore James, Etta James - they all recorded with Chess at some point. Check out their histories to find some recordings. Your best bet is to find some compilations of these artists.

Not all chess, but here's some great cuts from the late 60's

One Boubon, One Scotch, One Beer - John Lee Hooker
Gambler's Blues - Lightnin' Hopkins
Tell Mama - Etta James
She Caught the Katy - Taj Mahal
Madison Blues - Elmore James
Thrill Is Gone - B.B. King

In 1997, MCA/Universal reissued a collection called 'The Chess Blues-Rock Songbook' that contains cuts by Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Bo Diddley, Elmore James and many more. This is a double-CD set, catalog # CHD2-9389. These are songs from 1947 on, but there are some 60s tunes in there.

There is also the London Howlin' Wolf Sessions and Fathers and Sons, which has Chicago Blues masters paired with Biritish rockers. Also, you may want to check out Fleetwood Mac in Chicago, a really great album from the original Fleetwood Mac blues band, not the pop icons! Personally, I love the late-60s recordings by Little Milton that can be found on a Best Of in the Chess catalog.
