I'd have to say Bobby 'Blue' Bland (male) and Etta James (female). I want to be fair and include both sexes.

Completely subjective.

If you mean singing ability alone, I'd have to go with Dinah Washington.

If you mean Combination singing and guitar I am tempted to say T-bone Walker (but I may answer differently tomorrow).

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Robert Johnson and Leadbelly. But there are SO MANY greats, that heck, they MAY or MAY NOT even make the top ten!

I like Etta James as well, but there's just too many good ones to choose just one. Have you ever heard her sing "At Last?" I love it. Celine Dion has a version too...it gives me goosebumps every time.

I have to agree with Sue H. Billie Holliday had one of the greatest and most beautiful voices I've ever heard.

I wouldn't say best since that is totally subjective. But my favorite must be John Lee Hooker
Never have I heard another muscian that could put that much emotion into a song.

I am not sure about the best, but my favorites are BB King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Albert King, John Lee Hooker, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

When I consider all types of blues and cook them down into "blues" as a whole, I say Muddy Waters is the best male singer. I'd have to say overall just blues, Koko Taylor is best female.
