Remember The Edgar Broughton Band sweeties?Of course I do, I still own all their vinyl on the original EMI/Harvest original pressings, all in near mint condition too. Those babies sound wonderful!
I used to really enjoy tripping out to their song, 'There's No Vibrations but Wait'! off the 'Sing Brother Sing' album.
Of course their piece de resistance was the self titled LP with the songs 'Madhatter', 'House of Turnabout' and 'Evening Over Rooftops' to name a few! The album cover was another brilliant design by the boys at 'Hipgnosis'. Amongst all the hind quarters hanging in the meat locker, did you notice the naked man hanging by his feet? They don't make album covers like that anymore...or music for that matter!
Marilyn - You may be thinking about the song titled 'Apache (introducing) Drop out Boogie'. It was never featured on any of their proper album releases, but was included on their compilation 'Best Of' LP titled 'A Bunch of 45's'. The song combined the Captain Beefheart classic 'Drop out Boogie' with the song 'Apache', which was written by Jerry Lordan, but made famous by The Shadows in 1961. The Broughtons do a terrific job of combining the two classics!
Edgar Broughtons voice sounded very much like Captain Beefhearts, especially on their first couple albums. You'd almost swear it was the 'Captain'.

Ross X - "Thank Christ for the Bomb" eh? Sure do, I hitched it to the Mother's Club to see them, was a great show but finished very late, didn't get a lift on the way back, it took us 12 hours to walk home singing Out Demons Out all the way. Ah happy days eh? I had an album of theirs on vinyl years ago. I think it was called Wasa Wasa and it was like a heavy metal prototype. They are still touring as far as I know. Do you remember the Groundhogs? Is maybe qn appropriate answer? I can't hardly remember what I did in the late '60's.
Seriously, though, I think I remember them doing something with one of my all time favorites, Captain Beefheart! Wasa wasa! I do and where's my blessed Third Ear when I need it. Sort of. I think I got drunk to them, but Out,Demons, Out sticks in my mind. |
