Okay, so I know that Boogie stuff is all about improvisational stuff but i want a left hand pattern to work with. Know what I mean? I can impro my right hand but i want a left hand pattern to start with. I just don't know how to start on my left hand. Any Ideas? Please tell me if this doesn't make sense Take the harmonic progression (a I IV V in the 12-bar blues format - look it up) ...
And arrpeggiate the chords. Add a 6th to the chord
thus, to appregiate a "c" chord - play C E G A - play the notes on the downbeats of the measure - 4/4 swing time (or 12/8 technically speaking)
To make it bounce - repeat each note - but play the eight notes in SWING TIME ... technically - this is playing a pair of eight notes as if it were the first and third notes of a triplet pattern witht he middle note removed. Try doing a 'walking' bass line using eighth notes (8 eighths per measure) and the I-IV-V progression. Do you know that Vonage commercial with the "Woo hoo, woo hoo hoo" vocals? That uses sixteenths, but it is the 'walking' line that I am talking about - you can use sixteenths if you want, but eighths makes it more bluesy. Try these notes: g b d e f, going forward and then in reverse. Pick each note twice with up and down strokes. Use the same pattern starting with a c note and again with a d note. Thats your basic boogie in a 1,4,5 12 barre blues pattern. Mess with it and have fun. |
