Stormy Monday? |
Hey Y'all, I have a question. Martin: I know he was around and writing for others and such. I checked all of my T-Bone records-all credit him. Never heard of anyone else as the author. The B.B. comment is interesting, do you remember where you heard/read it? I have to look into this. He was recording in the late forties, and a D. J. on KDIA in Memphis around the same time. I've always known that as a T-bone Walker song as well. I know on the album title "Blues" by Eric Clapton he does a cover of it and on the inside sleeve of the album it gives credit to T-bone Walker for it. I would think Clapton would know if it was a B.B. King song considering their collaboration on Ridin' With the King. T Bone Walker wrote it. My favorite version is The Allman Brothers Live At The Fillmore East version. BB King wrote a lot of blues classics but this isn't one of them. Definitely written by T-Bone Walker, but it has been covered by just about everyone. it was Terry Winter who wrote that song in 1925 in Alabama T-Bone Walker wrote Stormy Monday, but it became popular after Bobby Blue's rendition. Personally, I think the Allman Bro's did it best. The Allman Brothers must be given credit for bringing that song to the mainstream, much as SRV brought Elmore James' "Sky Is Crying" to rock radio, doing Albert King's arrangement. I love getting out my LP of the Allman Brothers live at fillmore east, sitting back, and listening to 22 minutes of whipping post...amazing I believe that T-Bone Walker wrote the song and then recorded it, for Black and White Records in Los Angeles, in 1947. I've read that B.B. King has said that it inspired him to start playing electric guitar. The Original artist for the song "Stormy Monday" was done by The Great Entertainer Little Milton. In the late 40s "Stormy Weather" was done by The Great Lena Horne. |
