Favorite pre-1930s Blues Musician/Band (male)?

I'm doing some research, and would like to include something on current familiarity with early blues. No sexism involved, but more people are likely aware of Ma Rainey, all the Smiths (Bessie, Clara, Trixie), etc.
Jug Bands can be included also, if you like.
Thanks .

Edit: Thanks everybody for the answers so far (and to come). Please confine answers to those who first recorded prior to 1930. Robert Johnson was post 1930.

Blind Willie McTell & Blind Willie Johnson ( You MUST listen to Johnson sing " You're Gonna Need Somebody on Your Bond " + " John the Revelator "----- NOBODY has had a throaty, blues voice like him----He makes Howlin' Wolf sound like Little Bo Beep !! )

Oops, meant to say Wolf, not Lead Belly. Report It

Robert Johnson (of course)
Leadbelly
Son House
Blind Lemon Jefferson
Big Bill Broonzy (also recorded a lot post-1930s)
Tampa Red (ditto)
Reverend Gary Davis (ditto)

Charley Patton, Paul Robeson, and if I can find it, some old vinyl I have with prisoners singing during work. It also includes work camp songs (that line "got me accused of forgery/ and I can't even spell my name").

There used to be hundreds of local brass and jug bands here in Mississippi. All have fallen off due to technology.

One blues form that has survived since then is the uniquely New Orleans street music and costuming we call the Mardi Gras Indians. That was always my favorite part of the day, searching out the "Indian Tribes" in the uptown area and seeing their ritualized warfare of out-singing, out-chanting and out-dancing the enemy. Always ends with laughs and the leaders toasting each other. Alas, few if any early recordings exist but today's tribes do the old music.

Tommy Johnson whose career basically lasted for two years (1928-1930). He recorded "Big Road Blues" , "Canned Heat Blues" and "Cool Drink of Water Blues." He is one of my favorites.
"Papa" Charlie Jackson recorded "All I Want Is A Spoonful" in Chicago in 1925.
Blind Lemon Jefferson. "Match Box Blues", "See That My Grave Is Kept Clean", "Corrina Blues." Another favorite.
Speckled Red recorded "The Dirty Dozens" in 1929.
Barbecue Bob began recording in 1927.
Leroy Carr & Scrapper Blackwell. Recorded from the late 20s into the early 30s.
Blind Willie McTell recorded "Statesboro Blues" in 1928.
Hope this helps.

Mississippi John Hurt, Eric Clapton sounds just like him.

Today I'm gonna say Blind Willie Johnson.

But its a tough choice between he and Blind Blake

Also big ups to Mississippi John Hurt

Blind Lemon Jefferson,Charlie Patton, Sleepy John Estes,
Mississippi John Hurt. I believe Huddie Ledbetter (Leadbelly) also made a few recording in the late 1920's.
