What do people think of the Blues (Music not hockey team)?

Well I like it but a lot of people say that the guitar is annoying and what-not
artists I like

BB King
etc.

It's a great music form: expressive, original, free-form yet structured. It can be either simple or amazingly complex. It's easy to learn but impossible to master. You can play it by yourself if you want to, or with a huge band. Loud or soft. There are all the different styles from country blues to Chicago, Texas, jump blues, Delta Blues, boogie woogie. It's historical, part of America, and binds us to our roots and our connection to Africa.

What do I think about the blues? It's a straight line to the soul, brother.

I LOVE THE BLUES...from B B KING...to ..the led zeppelin blues...gospel blues.....you name it...i find that people that like the blues are deep thinkers and feel with a great passion, usually love things that are natural and appreciate fine arts and are very artistic and creative people...not to mention great lovers.....so if you LOVE THE BLUES you are in good company.

I don't see how anyone could not like the blues. I enjoy the blues, jazz, any kind of music that has a swing to it.

I love the blues and see nothing but soul reaching by the guitar

those that don't "get" the blues are missing it big time

well the thing about blues is how it makes you feel. it isn't alway's about the guitar, piano,brass, or any of that. how does it make you feel? good blues will move you and make you feel things other music can't. sometimes you hear a song and it just hits home, and you wonder how this singer knows exactly how you're feeling right now. it's beautifull. don't worry what other people think, just enjoy it and take it to your heart.

Well, it's good thing you like it. But for those who don't like, much less appreciate, blues, let me just tell you that rock, jazz, r & b and soul - in other words, everything that comprises contemporary music - originated from the blues. Without the blues, we won't be listening to anything but classical music today.

You're onto one of my favorite things in the world! (next to winning the lottery, only thing is that hasn't happend yet : - )

I've been playing mostly Blues for the last 10+ years. As a musician, I have found that most people feel that blues is soothing, and healing, and often a source of joy. No doubt, and I agree. And yes, sometimes the guitar solos can be a bit much (I am a guitarist for 30 years, even I can admit this). But that is usually the result of the music being in the wrong hands (i.e. not such great musicians just banging away at a I-IV-V and the guitarist just endlessly wailing away with no feeling or subtlety). B.B. usually kept his solos to a minimum. Stevie Ray was an absolute master of Blues / Blues-Rock guitar. But admittedly, there may be times where one of his extended solos are best enjoyed by real fans of guitar who wanna hear that. But I absolutely LOVE Stevie Ray and could never tire of his music.... but that's my opinion.

But the one thing I have found to be particularly interesting is this: NO ONE can really resist good blues music!

What I mean is, if someone is not at all into Hard Rock, when a hard rock song comes on, their reaction is usually "Ugggghh... please turn that down" The opposite is true as well, if you like your music good and hard, when you hear Barry Manilow, it's "Oh man, c'mon... turn that boring stuff off!!"

But I have really noticed over the years that during a sound check or after a gig (a moment when I am not playing, and have a moment to really look around), whenever a good shuffle or a really heart-felt slow blues comes over the PA or stereo, everyone starts to sway a little or play a little air-guitar, or at least tap their toes.... everyone.

It's a funny thing, but Blues seems to really cut through indivisual musical taste. I don't know why, I really don't, but....

It just seems that everyone loves the Blues.... even if they don't necessarily know it!

I can think of no other music that has permeated the entire world. Even hip hop comes from the blues tradition.

Blues is the father AND mother of rock n' roll. It is the wellspring that founded all of popular music we listen to now, period. If people are annoyed at the guitar in the blues they hear, it's only one instrument that conveys the genre. My thinking is that those folks aren't used to MELODY, just bass-driven muck.

I have been listening to, playing, collecting, researching, and writing about blues for thirty years. I have perhaps 2500 blues recordings on 78s, 45s, 33s, cds, cassettes, and probably some 8 tracks!. Not to mention several hundred books on the blues. The Blues are the genesis of virtually every form of American music. Fats Domino, who's first record-The Fat Man- was basically a cover of Champion Jack Dupree's "Junker's Blues' was widely heard in Jamaica during the 1950s, as a New Orleans station was one of the only American radio signals to reach the island. As a result, he influenced Ska, Rock Steady, and Reggae. Since Bob Marley is the most recognized musician on the planet, the blues diaspora is now worldwide.
In much the same way that Robert Johnson seems to get the press for selling his soul to the devil, when in fact it was Tommy Johnson whom the legend sprung from, Jazz is consistently called the only uniquely American art form, when in fact Jazz grew out of the blues.

As for the guitar-it has played a huge role in the blues, but blues is a VOCAL art.

I have loved blues since I was a little kid and had no idea what it was. I love any type of blues -- from the oldest recorded stuff to the newer rockin' blues.

Don't be influenced by your friends who are probably the ones who told you the guitar sounds annoying. You enjoyed it to begin with, and thats what matters.
