Who is the greatest blues player of all time?

who is the greatest blues player ever?
1.robert johnson---crossroad blues/ me and the devil blues

2.stevie ray vaughn---texas flood/ rude mood

3.eric clapton---layla/ sunshine of your love

4.buddy guy---had a dream last night/ first time i meet the blues

BB KING

Joey Dee

Jake and Elwood Blues, The Blues Brothers!

Oh, yeah, and B.B. King!

5. Jimmy Page.

I guess in that list I would vote for Robert Johnson based on raw talents, Eric Clapton based on number of wonderful songs.

Ella Fitzgerald

buddy guy

where is bb king or muddy waters? I would vote bb king because he influenced all of todays blues players.

Why does there have to be a best? I enjoy them all equally. Music is not a competition, it's an art form. That is like asking who is the best impressionist painter - Manet, Monet or Rembrandt.

Muddy Waters - to quote from the movie Crossroads(NO NOT THE BRITNEY SPEARS MOVIE!!!) "Muddy Waters "discovered" electricity!" - Blues legend Willie Brown (played by Joe Seneca)

of the list - either vaughn or clapton

Muddy Waters- he had it all. Great singer, great guitarist, great writer, incredible stage presence; a complete package. Not to mention his ability to lead a band and his mentoring of young musicians. Muddy will always be #1.

non of the above. I will go with Lead belly or Stevie Vie, or Nikki Six

I think I'd rather it be between T-Bone Walker and W.C. Handy.

Another student of Alexis Korners & Jon Mayalls bluesbreakers from England not Eric Clapton, nor Peter Green or many of there other proteges Not Brian Jones great slide & harp player but underated Mick Taylor makes the hardest licks look so easy{ slide on love in vein }.

depends on how you look at it. i've seen a lot of them and i can say for a fact that buddy guy puts on the best show you could ever see. at the end of his show you will feel like you've known him all your life.

that would really be up to the listener! they are all great in their own way. I've been a guitar teacher for over 18 yrs .
buddy guy. has his own style.so does SRV and on down the line.the one thing in common with all the players on the list is .
Robert johnson! hes credited with inventing the turn around
some of the best slide work to date.he started the now modern movement called the blues.but if ya go with who taught him .legend has it was the devil at the crossroads so
if ya want to get all tech about . it could be the devil.
but god taught him. so the greatest blues player is the first one
or god who invented all music. if ya believe in that.

1. As "all time" has not occurred, nobody really knows.

2. It will always be a matter of personal opinion.

Guess I'm the only ole timer on here and no one has heard of Z.Z. Hill.....

i'd say SRV, buddy guy and hendrix on his blues album

those are all GREAT players, but BB King, Freddie and Albert King, and muddy waters need to be on your list. and robert cray.

...and...
5. Freddie King

robert johnson, muddy waters, memphis slim, leadbelly, howling wolf, too many to name just one

The greatest blues player of all time is Muddy Waters and his album Muddy "Mississippi Waters Live" from the year 1978 is absolute fantastic.
John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, Howlin' Wolf, B.B. King, Keb' Mo' and Stevie Ray Vaughn are also great Blues players and I add them to my all time favorites.

from that list buddy guy
my favorite is john lee hooker he is amazing

That is too hard.. So many of the older timers influenced Clapton and Stevie.. B.B King really brought the blues out in the open with the help of Clapton.. Freddy King, Albert King, B.B. all brought blues to the "white audience" But If I must select.. forget the older guys.. on popularity.. .Clapton is the most well known..but many people don't realize he was a blues guitarist first.. They think of him as a rock guitarist.
