List of Blues singers with a specific sound? |
One of my residents at work is looking for a list of good blues singers who as he described sound like they have been smoking cigarettes forever, deep guttaral voice, playing only the acoustic guitar or slide guitar, deep dark blues. I have a small list going but I needed more artists that might sound something like this. Or any really good blues singers in general. Top of that list needs to be Blind Willie Johnson! James Cotton, or James Cottonwood. I've seen him live and he is the definition of the "blues harp." Anyone with any interest in blues should check him out. Make sure you check out Jerry Reed and John Lee Hooker. Maybe Willie Dixon, Howlin Wolf and Muddy Waters. If you like videos on youtube there is a guy that does great acoustic blues and has an awesome voice one of the best blues voices in my opinion rich textured, check him out and see for yourself. His name on youtube is fretkiller I'm not sure the spelling is correct, but you should be able to find him from there. Good Luck! Howling Wolf, Mitty Collier, Jimmy Reeve, Harvie "Blues Boy" Cook, Albert King, Leon Redbone, and KoKo Taylor. with a deep guttaral voice? try something new: Blind Willie Johnson---John Lee Hooker -----Popa Chubby are gutteral male Blues singers.....Bessie Smith-----Janis Joplin......Ma Rainey are gutteral female Blues singers-----Lastly; Blind Willie McTell & Elmore James are great Blues singers-----The Greatest Living Accoustic Blues Artist is the award winning Little Toby Walker who plays a Steel Vocallion accoustic guitar and must be heard and/or seen to be believed !!!! This may seem too obvious what about Tom Waits. Satan Handy One of my favorites is Watermelon Slim. His voice has a Oklahoma draw. If you want genuine blues then you just need to surf over to www.bluescritic.com and take a gander, can also listen to blues radio also. My favorite blues singer is Lightnin' Hopkins. Sounds like he's been drinkin'. Mostly acoustic stuff. Lou Ann Barton John Kay of Steppenwolf has a very distinctive voice |
