I like Stevie because he can handle the guitar better than Hendrix could.

I like Stevie because he can handle the guitar better than Hendrix could.

I'm a heretic: I think SRV would win. Jimi was a blessed soul, but I don't think he was still on the upward spiral when he passed on. Stevie, on the other hand, had cleaned up and was putting out some AWESOME stuff. I think he was on the up, unlike Jimi.

So, if they were both still alive, I would expect SRV to be putting out good music with more consistency.

(As a reference point, see how Eric Clapton's career has gone through ups and downs. Until Unplugged, Clapton was having some trouble keeping relevant. Since then, realistically speaking, he's still had trouble. I think he is fantastic, but there are so many nay-sayers out there bringing him down. Audiences are fickle.)

Hendrix would win, SRV would sweat to much and dehydrate

it is because of hendrix, that that other guy you mentioned even has a guitar. hendrix is the god of the guitar. if there was no hendrix, the guitar would now be the equivalent of a big ukulele.

I like them both so I would have to say the audience at that concert would be the winner.

I think Jimi was more innovative and ground breaking for his time, but Stevie was the better player overall in the long run.

Jimi all the way. Stevie was just his bastard child.

I think Jimi would. I think they would have enjoyed jamming together!

I really love Stevie Ray Vaughan, and if he and Jimi Hendrix were to have a battle, I would say Jimi would win. He was a more awesome guitar player...

Both amazing and a hard bet to place!

I would pick Jimi, because if you listen to his version and Stevie's version of Voodoo Child back to back, you can hear a lot more subtlty and intricacy in Jimi's playing.

Jimi Hendrix. I agree, both were awesome guitarists, but Hendrix was an innovator. Stevie Ray Vaughan followed in his footsteps. Who knows what Jimi could have done if he had lived a few more years?

Hendrix, SVR's style is copped from Hendrix and Albert King. Hendrix was much more versatile and original SVR had great soul and tone but was just a souped up blues player, Hendrix went far beyond the blues.

Ooooooh, that's a tough one, because Stevie was so inspired by Jimi. If Jimi were still alive, no doubt he'd be awestruck at how the guitar has evolved since he started to play in his groundbreaking way. Stevie was from a later time, so he had seen alot of this stuff happen after Jimi passed, so I think Stevie had the advantage of being born later, and thus was able to take advantage of advances that had been made that Jimi wasn't able to. Still, quite a hard one to answer definitively.
