John mayall?

what a harmonica player ! what a genius !
i saw his band live a while back and they were fantastic.2 and a half hours of bliss !

I saw John during the 70's.. He did an acoustic set too. .Great player.. I agree!

Blues From Laurel Canyon, brilliant album.Especially The Bear what a guitar intro by Mick Taylor.

Poor John.

The night he headlined, he had the misfortune of being preceded by Johnny Copeland, and then the James Cotton band when Eddie Harsch was on keyboards and guitarist Michael Coleman was bandleader. Cotton stole the night- by far the better harp player.

Mayall was ok, but I remember snickering when he did "Room To Move", as I remember him saying snidely on the live "Jazz//Blues Fusion" LP to someone in the audience "What'd you do, come here for an old record?"

I like Mayall, a lot of his albums are real hit or miss though. For my harmonica fix I gotta get down with the Butterfield Blues Band. 8)

All I know of him is the bluesbreakers record with Eric Clapton - but his harmonica on that is (was) brilliant!
Another Man - amazing song. Parchman farm - even better. Wish I could play like that!

if u like his harp playing ,start listening 2 the creators of that style. sonny terry, sonny boy williamson 2 and little walter
thats just 4 starts, there are dozens more...

John Mayall a genius on harmonica? I beg to differ. Mayall did have some great albums. My favorite is a double album that I think was called Back To The Roots. It had Harvey Mandel, Mick Taylor, Eric Clapton, and a few others on guitar.
I think the geniuses of harmonica are Paul Butterfield, Charlie Musselwhite, James Cotton, Magic Dick (J Geils Band), Norton Buffalo (Bonnie Raitts "Runaway"), Little Walter, Big Walter, etc.

. . . and what about MEDIUM Walter? He never gets his props.
