I think ol' Corey Harris has got the soul.
Zora Young is a great female artist. Check out her song "Go Ahead and Take Him". She's got the blues. Im really into Robin Trower these days......actually me and my fiance just picked our wedding song from the live DVD he relesed in 06'....the song called "Daydream" will be our wedding song! Get the live DVD or live CD called "Livin out of Time".
I also love Jonny Lang! All CDs of his are good....his newest called "Turn Around" is a little christian-ish....but still wonderful. For lots of great suggestions (including women) see the other current question about a novice's blues collection. Kid Ramos, Junior Watson, Otis Grand, Carter Chaplin, Rick Holmstrom, Kid Andersen, Hollywood Fats, Debbie Davies, Sue Foley, Susan Tedeschi, Deborah Coleman, Cleveland FAts, Dave Specter, Melvin Taylor, Magic Slim, Steve Fister, Innes Sibun, van Wilks, Tom Principato, Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan and try Gregor Hilden his album Golden Voice Blues.

Robert Johnson You can't beat Eric Clapton or Stevie Ray Vaughn Storyville is great, and believe it or not, John Mayer is an awesome blues guitar player and singer! Also Guy Forsythe and Chris Duarte. Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Susan Tedeschi. Of course, no one can beat Hendrix or SRV. I could go on but I won't. Oh, don't forget Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton!! Janis Joplin! I effing love her!
Odetta...although she was considered folk. I think her sound was more bluesy.
Bessie Smith
Ma Rainey
Leadbelly
Otis Redding.
That's all I can think of right now...
As far as the best guitarist, It's definitely Jimi Hendrix. He was part of his guitar. It's amazing. There are so many, but I haven't noticed anybody mention Michael Bloomfield. Also check out out some of the Junior Wells and Buddy Guy albums.
