Which song do you like better : "Mannish Boy" or "Hoochie Coochie Man"?

I was just wondering...

I don't know:
Mannish Boy by Muddy Waters with Johnny Winter screaming encouragement or Hoochie Coochie Man by the Allman Bros with Berry Oakly laying down the vocals. I'd say it's a tie and I'd put them both on a complilation.

No contest here---Hoochie Coochie Man by a mile---The Stepenwolf version especially

"Hoochie Coochie Man". It is almost primeval. That riff is just the essence of the blues, the Muddy Waters vocals ditto.

Tough call, but "Mannish Boy" wins by a slim margin. What a declaration of freedom from emasculation for its time.

Muddy brought everything he had to this song.

tough call both are really good.

I'll go with Hoochie Coochie Man by slim margin.

especially the Allman Brothers Band version of Hoochie... with the late Berry Oakley doing lead vocals.

*whew* I wouldn't want to bet my life on the difference.

I'd have to say Hoochie Coochie man is just a touch more bad ***!

Both are goodies! I love Hoochie Coochie Man, especially when preformed by Willie Dixon (he wrote the song). It's such a killer tune. Mannish Boy is good, but when you think of blues, you think of the quintessential blues riff, and that is Hoochie Coochie Man.

They are almost the same song, but I will go with Mannish Boy, as HCM has been done to death everyone and their little brother. In either case, no one does either like the original, Muddy Waters -- it's the Vocal that makes the song not any hyped up instrumental embellished version, and no white guy is ever gonna song either of those songs with conviction of a a Muddy Waters!

PS "Hoochie Coochie" is kinda a trite usage. Mannish Boy lyrics stands up better over time

Today I will lean towards Hoochie Coochie.

Mannish Boy by Muddy..a response to all white overseers everywhere..I've heard it a lot..but I reckon that version produced by Johnny Winter takes it to the top.
