Elvin Bishop?

Not quite Allman, Garcia, Clapton or many other personas that played the blues in 70's.

Elvin was never rich or famous but seemed to capture the spirit, played and singed the rock blues.

Retrospect or Now spill so old Elvin Bishop Stories

I loved his Fooled Around and Fell In Love, in fact I just looked for it in My Itunes so I can play it and remember the good times..................Thanks for the memory

No stories from me - but I dig Elvin Bishop!

Good on you for posting about a highly underrated blues player!

Saw him live at the old Warehouse in New Orleans in 1974. Fun stuff- I always liked his songwriting abilities, too, the wryness like "Stealing Watermelons" and his guitar playing. Not many know Elvin was plucked from Northwestern University, where he was on scholarship to study physics (take that, Brian May!)

Remember, his nickname while in the Butterfield Blues Band was "Pigboy Crabshaw".

He had Mickey Thomas with him for the first time, so I heard "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" live before I heard the record. Then Thomas moved on to Starship.

The Elvin Biship group always evokes memories of what I call happy blues. He was having a good time up there with his guitar and made darn sure we did too.

I kept checking the tour schedule, but never got to see him live. I love his new live CD, "Booty Bumpin'." Also, his live performance with George Thorogood and Johnny Johnson on the title track to GT's "Let's Work Together."

I like Elvin Bishop, but I prefered a little more obscure group.
Anyone remember "Barefoot Jerry " ? Or "Beaverteeth" ?

;-)

I agree with the above post - the new stuff is a knockout as well!

Personally I rate Mr Crabshaw higher than most of those guys (Garcia ain't a blues player) as a blues player.

Saw Elvin open up for Van Morrison in Berkeley at the Community Theater in 70'.. Probably the first concert I saw away from home.. Great guy, very humble and Lot's of fun.. He went through some tough times with the death of his daughter a few years ago.

She Puts Me In The Mood- One of my favorite Elvin songs

Fooled around and fell in love- One of the worst songs of all time.
I guess he had to pay the rent, though.

The Elvin Bishop Group was one of my favorite bands to see live back in my high school days. He had these three great female singers who ultimately went out on their own. You may have heard of them- they were Pointer Sisters.

I saw Elvin Bishop play last night with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. He joined them for a few songs. He's still playin around. Met him back stage and he seemed like a nice guy. He lives near me in the SF bay area and seems to show up at blues shows and blues festivals regularly. His style was a little different than the T-Birds more texas, soul, blues sound that they are famous for but he he was still playing good.

Elvin has absolutely done all right for himself and is still going strong. I saw him in concert in October and he blew everyone's doors off. Don't talk about him as if he's dead because he's FAR from it. He's still performing and doing a great job!
