Were The Beatles the best songwriters of the 20th century?

Can you make a case for anyone other than the Beatles?

Bob Dylan did a lot. Irvin Berlin won some awards. But who in the 20th century has written as many memorable melodies as The Beatles?

There are many good songwriters out there. Maybe not as many tunes as the Beatles however.

No, just Paul and John were the songwriters, not the whole group of the Beatles. Bob Dylan influenced them and he has a great catalog and he is still alive and working. Therefore, I would go with Bob.

sorry...to some the beatles may be overrated but they can never be outdone.

The Beatles are up there with the best.

Led Zeppelin, Bob Seger, The Moody Blues, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, James Taylor, Crosby,Stills,Nash & Young, The Doors. That might be a good start.

Well I wont say that they were the absolute best a lot depends on the style of music you like. But I do think they were among the top 5 even when you include all styles of music.

The beatles certainly had quality and quantity and have lastest the time. I mean I wasnt even born when they hit big and yet if you look on my playlist at the moment I have a bout 7 or 8 beatles songs on there. Tbh I truely beleive they are one of them, However I dont want to discount all other great songwriters over the years (Eva cassidy for example is one of my personal favourites)

Not only were The Beatles brilliant songwriters and performers, they changed the entire music scene. Their legacy will live on forever, and it should!
