Richard Tauber singing in The Merry Widow.? |
Here's one for the older members of this club, or those who are good at research. Thanks JA12. Unfortunately Tauber doesn't appear on any of the recordings you suggest. As it was one of Lehar's most successful works, I'm sure that Tauber must have appeared in the show at some time, and I would have imagined him to have held the lead male role of Danilov. As that may well have been in the 1930's in Austria or Germany, or in the 1940's in England however, its quite possible that it was not recorded or filmed though. None of JA 12's links have anything to do with Richard Tauber (being later recordings after Tauber was long dead!). Yes he did. It seems to be available on CD and DVD. There is one with Richard Tauber singing excerpts on Naxos Historical - catalogue number 8110779. I have searched www.mdt.co.uk which deal in most classical CDs available world wide and apart from the Naxos they do not list either a Tauber complete Merry Widow, nor a DVD of his performance I am positive there no record visual nor audio of a complete Tauber Merry Widow International movie data base) doesn't list any appearance of Tauber in a filmed version of the Merry Widow. |
