Favorite Concerto?

My favorite concerto at the moment is the Elgar Cello Concerto followed closely by the Dvorak Cello Concerto

(I'm a Cellist)

What is your favorite concerto (any instrument) and why?

^^^Elgar Played by Jacqueline Du Pre^^

Rachmaninoff piano concerto #2
awesome!
also like Bolero
and Carmen although they're not concertos

Hayden Trumpet Concerto Movement 3

(I'm a trumpet player)

I think Vivaldi's violin concerto in G minor is Brilliant it is so
much fun to play.

Beethoven's violin concerto.....a monumental work ; so unlike other concertos.

Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez........just so much "life" in it ; a wonderful piece of music.

Tie between
Piano Concerto No. 1 by Grieg
or
Piano Concerto No. 2 by Rachmaninoff.

Both excellent.

EDIT:
Also the Warsaw Concerto --beautiful

I must say that as a rule I hate "Your Favorite" questions, because my choices in such categories are not fixed and change according to mood, date, etc.
At this particular time, however, I would have to plump for Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.4, which in my humble opinion is the best of all the concertos the great man wrote. Truly a masterpiece of masterpieces!

Hai, My favorite concerto is veena only, because i like saraswathi god that's why i like this instrument, and who are all knowing to play with veena they don't have a chance to next birth in this world.and it helps to our nerves also, and it has to improve the concentrate power also.

Cello- I love the Dvorak, am not really familiar with the Elgar. I think I've heard it a few times, but it hasn't really grabbed me. Maybe I'll come to appreciate it, like I have with other popular works such as the Tchaik 6th that didn't grab me the first few times I heard it.

Piano- has to be the Rach 3, though there are many close contenders.

Violin- Sibelius by a few noses over the Tchaik or the Shostakovich 1st.

Trumpet- Haydn

Horn- Mozart #4, though I don't really know a lot of the other repertoire

Saxophone- Glazunov- followed closely by Ibert.

Clarinet- Too hard to pick (mozart, both of weber's, copland, I'm sure there are some other good one's).

Can't comment on Flute, Oboe (mozart is really good, but that's the only one i've heard), Bassoon, viola, double bass, trombone, tuba, and percussion.

oh yeah, I'll add in Bach- Brandenburg #5 as a great Harpsichord concerto. The cadenza is worthy of heavy metal. Fantastic stuff. And written over 250 years ago.

darn- of course I left off guitar- yes, the concierto de aranjuez is awesome, don't know any of its competitors though.

Oh so many....don't think I can choose just one:

Here are my top ten:

1. Gyorgy Ligeti - Piano Concerto (best modern piano concerto ever written in my opinion)
2. Bela Bartok - Piano Concerto No. 1
3. Chopin - Piano Concerto No. 2
4. Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto No. 2
5. Manuel de Falla - Nights in the Gardens of Spain (yes it is a piano concerto)
6. Samuel Barber - Piano Concerto (freakin' awesome)
7. Lutoslawski - Cello Concerto
8. J.S. Bach - Double Violin Concerto in Dm
9. Robert Beaser - Piano Concerto
10. Ney Rosauro - Marimba Concerto

The Arnold Schoenberg piano concerto, believe it or not, is actually awesome...it is not well known, which is a shame, because it is not as cold as some of his other works and is incredibly interesting and fun. Don't be afraid...give it a listen!

Hmm... so many
Piano concertos, there are obviously more of:
Gershwin concerto in F
Prokofiev 1 and 3
Rachmaninoff 2 & 3 (and the paganini rhapsody)
Grieg & Schumann concertos in A minor
Shostakovich 2
Mozart 20
Barber piano concerto
Beethoven 3, 4 and 5
Khachaturian concerto in D Flat
Ravel's concerto in G
Saint-Sa毛ns 2 (and his Africa Fantasie)
Gyrory Ligeti's piano concerto

Good violin concertos;
Beethoven's concerto in D Minor
Tchaikovsky's in D minor
Stravinsky's violin concerto (yow!)
Barber's violin concerto (aaaah)
All the Paganini violin concertos
Prokofiev's second (listen to the second movement)
I've heard that the Mendelssohn violin concerto is good
Shostakovich's 2 violin concertos
Dvorak's violin concerto
Schumann's violin concerto
Ravel's Tzigane (not really a concerto)
Saint-Sa毛ns' Introduction und Rondo Cappricio (not a concerto)
Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending (you guessed it, not a concerto)

Sorry I don't actually know any Cello concertos other than Dvorak and Elgar, but you must hear the Tchaikovsky Rococco Varriations for Cello.

No matter what anyone else says, the Warsaw Concerto is NOT a concerto and is not a piece of classical music, respected or otherwise.

As to 'why' (for all the above answers); you'd just have to listen to each of them to find out.
