Does anyone know if there is an orchestral piece of this music? On CD?
I don't want one with the chorus
Thanks There probably is a 'generic' instrumental recording of the March of the Hebrew Slaves out there somewhere, but most recordings stay true to the original - I would check Amazon.com.
It is important to note, however, that Verdi specifically wrote this piece to feature voices because the chorus was symbolic of the "Hebrew Slaves". Normally, the only instrument afforded a slave would be his/her singing voice. If you take the chorus out, you take out the heart of Verdi's work. Another example of the importance of voices in the work is that this chorus was sung in the streets as Verdi's funeral procession made its way through his hometown. The voices are symbolic of freedom, unity and hope...regardless of a person's societal status. However, if you just want something nice and instrumental, then I'd still check Amazon.com. Verdi wrote it with chorus. He knew what he was doing. Why would there be a version without chorus? As far as I know, there isn't one. Get over it. |
