I hate playing the piano is there anyway to make it fun?

I didn't like the finger exercises for 30 minutes. To give myself a treat after I had endured the session, I would play the "Minute Waltz" as fast as I could, or something big and loud like Chopin's "Polinaisse" (sp?)

The piano is good for expressing oneself. It served me well when I was going through some awkward years, (ages 10-14) no matter what my mood, I could find a piano selection that would express it perfectly.

If you think of it as self-expression, it will become more enjoyable to you.

I hope you learn to love it as I did.

Listen to a variety of music with piano parts- until you find something you like and that inspires you- for modern music, try the band Something Corporate- the piano parts are amazing and it's really great music- or if you like country or rock, find music that you enjoy with piano pieces and learn those pieces- along with the classics, which are necessary for variety!

There is really only one way... that is to get good at it.

Is there any reason you should play it if you hate it? I don't think so.

It might be time to look at another instrument .....flute, violin, cello ?
Taking up another instrument can sometimes rekindle your love for the piano.

Learn to play your favorite musical piece on the piano.

Find a vibrant beat. Choose a song with that beat and play it!!!

listen to a lot of different solo piano stuff and find some things you like. Try Chopin, Beethoven, Rachmaninov and Brahms for starters.

That's probably because we are all gregarious animals and most of us don't like doing things by ourselves.

I know a way you could do yourself and other people a favor: Find someone else who plays the piano but hates to practice alone and practice piano duets with that person. (Ensemble practice is a dandy solution for rhythm problems anyway.)

Or find someone who plays another instrument but hates practicing alone. Offer to practice together, with you playing the accompaniment.
