Just for toutvasbien, who expressed his 53-54 preference many a time, I'll list my Callas recordings:
- Macbeth (mind-blowing;1951- live La Scala - Conductor V. De Sabata)
- I Vespri Siciliani (1951 - live Florence - Conductor E. Kleiber)
- Medea (1953 live Florence - Conductor V. Gui; the top of tops, better than same year at La Scala with Bernstein)
- Cavalleria Rusticana (1953 - G. Di Stefano; Conductor T. Serafin)
- Andrea Ch猫nier (live La Scala - 1/8/1955 - Mario Del Monaco ********; Conductor A. Votto)
- La Vestale (live La Scala - 12/7/1954 opening night - Franco Corelli; Conductor A. Votto)
- I Puritani (another must hear; 1953 - G. Di Stefano - Conductor T. Serafin)
- Lucia di Lammermoor (1953; Di Stefano and Tito Gobbi are legendary; Serafin a supreme baton).
Then I have the 1960 Poliuto where the kings of the night were Corelli, Bastianini and conductor Votto and the 1961 Norma (vinyl) where Corelli outstarred Maria.
My personal Tosca is Renata Tebaldi. Period.

Edit - Teresa, I recall advising you. Personally, I have a ticket to Rossini's Moises next Sat. in Rome and the opening Parsifal in Naples on Dec.6. Hit the Parma opening last month (Luisa Miller) but failed to get the Scala Tristan with Barenboim. Such a pity.

Dude! I am going to "La Rondine" with Angela Gheorghiu tomorrow at the SF Opera! It sold out but I got a ticket off of Craigslist. I am so excited! I also got a FIFTH row seat for Madame Butterfly and a sixth row seat for Macbeth by Verdi. Happening Dec 7 and 8. I am so excited (oh I already said that). I got the ticket partially on your recommendation!

I only like Callas recordings before 1953 ... I have a portion of the MET return of Callas in Tosca ... she was ghastly and Corelli was magnificent
