What are the political influences of Beethoven's 9th symphony?

What underlying political themes can be seen in this symphony?

First, The Ninth is not a purely instrumental piece, nor is it pure music. The 4th movement uses solo voices and chorus, which is the second point. It is named Choral, and the Ode To Joy is Friedrich Schiller's poem. Beethoven set it to music in the 4th movement., based on a theme from a folk song.

In a nutshell, "It is significant of Beethoven's ethical ideals that in choosing the stanzas to be used he selected those that emphasize two ideas: the universal brotherhood of man through joy, and its basis in the love of an eternal heavenly Father."

The Third Symphony, Eroica (Heroic) was originally dedicated to Napoleon, but Beethoven was disenchanted when it became apparent to him that Napoleon was not the liberator he thought he was, but just another self-serving tyrant. He was very disillusioned most of his life over the political goings-on in Europe. His constant disappointment in politics, class, women, where a driving force for his desire for a brotherhood of all men.

i never thought it could have any political influences , all i can see is a pure music for music .

I think that one was a childhood themed one for him. Just my P.O.V the one he wrote for napoleon was 2nd i think 2nd or 6th I forget, THAT was political

Beethoven's 9th symphony was also named "Ode To Joy" by him. He wrote it at a time when he was already almost completely deaf, and was never even able to hear it performed by a symphony orchestra! This was one of the first pieces I learned to play on classical guitar, so I am very familiar with the whole thing. Still, I can't say that I have, or ever will, be able to attach any political meaning or nuance to it. What a very strange and intriguing question you have posed. Then again, it would be impossible (in my humble opinion) to attach any type of social "meaning" or "message" to a purely instrumental piece of music. I mean, while it is quite easy to imbue a melody with emotional undertones, using strictly musical notes to bring to mind political (or any other type of) words or phrases seems to me a virtual impossiblity.
