http://youtube.com/watch?v=9jumopYHTTw Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67. The melody you have tried to "visually" hum is actually, as others have already mentioned, the motif of the main theme of the first movement of the Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67 by Ludwig Van Beethoven. That is the first movement of his fifth symphony.
Interesting story about it. When Beethoven wrote this piece, he was pretty messed up to say the least. He was deaf and depressed. He was thought to have often think of the fate and death. Thus, the first 8 notes are supposed to be fate knocking on his door. Of coarse, it was later noticed that the book that this story originated from was a more dramatized version of his real life. Arturo Toscanini, who was and still is considered the greatest conductor or any band or orchestra ever, started the first four notes live on the radio, then turned around into the mic and said "Twas not-a fate, twas not-a door. Twas allegro con brio. AVANTI!". Personally, that is my favorite quote of all time. |
