Can I get an average cost for piano lessons? I want to start giving them, but need to know what to charge for a 1/2 hour lesson. I take piano lessons and have a very kind, experienced teacher. She gives half hour lessons and charges $15 a month. Well, good luck! id say 25 dollars for 1/2 an hour is fair. Probably depends on where you are, but I generally charge $10 for a full half hour. I know some that charge $15 or $20 as well. That would depend upon

** experience
** location It depends on 1: your training/background/credentials
2: the area you live in. it could vary dramatically say between NYC and a small town in Iowa.

My most sincere plead: if you were not trained /skilled as a pianist/piano teacher, please find something else to make a living. It may be an easy and lucrative way of making money if you don't have other skills, but the consequences of teaching students incorrectly(yes, there's A LOT of specific skills a trained pianist needs to have in order to be a adequate piano teacher) is tremendous(on the students' part)
I (a highly trained musician with lots of experience and credentials) and my colleagues have been struggling for years with students who came from un-qualified, in-adequate teachers. Many of these students would have had a future in music. Well, most musicians charge as to what level they're skills are at and what degree in music they have.
If you play in a Philharmonic most of them charge $100
If you have a masters in music, most likely $50-75
If you have a PhD, then you can charge as much as you want, being over $100 is okay.
Most members of orchestras or freelancers charge atleast $45 and up per hour.
It all depends on you though.
I know for a fact that members of Philharmonics such as the L.A. Phil charge a lot for lessons! I would charge $15 for half an hour. That seems fair. $10 sounds too cheap. But then again, it really depends on your credentials. it depends on what grade the students.
