How do i go about choosing the right size for my first cello? i am 5'1.?

i have never played the cello before but always wanted to... i just need to know what size i need...

probably either 7/8 or 4/4 depending on how long your arms are and how big you are in general....my girlfriend is only 5'2" and plays a 4/4....I'm 5'9" and play a 4/4.

Its all a matter of comfort you need to find out for yourself, go to a music store and ask to try them out, or ask an experienced cello teacher to help pick the right size.

Hope this is helpful

:D

Well your like about 5 inches shorter than me, but it really depends on how tall you are. You might want to try a full size cello (4/4) if it feels comfortable enough for you to play or a 3/4 just a little smaller if you dont feel right on a full size. But if you think you need a smaller size rent one but then you'll need to get a full size sooner or later and probably you can trade it for a full size. Thats what some smaller people in my orchestra did.

Your local violin/cello shop will be able to advise you on which size cello you need.

I am 5"2 1/2" and use a 4/4. I would definitely recommend full size, whether you are still growing or not. If you are still growing, it will be a HUGE hassle to go out and get a bigger one, considering if you are a half inch taller, you will need a full size.

Get a full-size (4/4) cello!

It's the biggest possible size, and basically a 'one size fits all' situation (for most cases, at least).

Usually, people who are 5 feet and above find that the full-size is more suitable.
