Is the violin hard to play?

I've really been thinking about learning to play the violin. Some people say it's hard, other say not. I've only played the recorder for less than a year in third grade, and that's all. Should I try playing the violin?

Is it challenging, Yes. It requires more of an ear. But is it worth it, yes. I play may instruments. But no matter how many I have ever played and learned, the violin feels like a part of me. Finding the instrument that you bond with makes the music flow. Many people can play it but to make it sing is another story. When you feel the music and become the music you make is when you become a musician. I love the violin. I even got an Fender Electric and hook it up to effects and it rocks. But then I can sit there and play a beautiful piece by Vivaldi or Mozart etc. in all it's beauty.

Don't not try because it's hard. Try and See if it becomes part of you.

Sure, you can't lose by trying!

Any musical instrument has its difficulties, and to play well you must dedicate yourself to practicing. Once you get past the hurdles that a beginner on any instrument will face, the violin has a beautiful sound and I'm sure you will enjoy playing.

peace

.

Its not hard to play a tune.
Its damn hard to make it sound like Grappelli or Ponty.

I'd been playing for a year now and it's pretty much not that hard.If you put a little effort into it I'm sure you can do it,though I failed to. >.>

I play the violin and i don't think its terrible hard, the hard part about it is learning how to make what u play sound good, but its not to hard to play songs. I'd deffinately learn to play it, i love it and its a great instrament

(Well I play the violin, but it isn't hard for me)It won't be hard if you really want to learn how to do it, because if you really want to learn how to play it won't seem as hard, but you really have to practiced a lot, I mean learning something new isn't easy, but you have to practice a lot to get the hang of it, oh and when you start out your finger tips will hurt, well they will be sore, but I think you should go for it, the violin is a very interesting instrument.

Of course you should. Learning the violin is no more challenging than playing the recorder. The more instruments you learn, the more versitile you will be. The violin is a beautiful instrument. Strings in an orchestra are breathtakingly emotional.

I am 76 years of age and am teaching myself violin. Squicky at first, but I am really getting a good sound out of it now.
I play 4 instruments, sing and dance. The more instruments you learn the more opportunity you will get if you want to make a living playing any instrument.,

I saw Wayne Newton when he was a young man, on stage, and he played 11 instruments, one after the other. He was amazing. Can you imagine 11 instruments.

Learn to play the violin, it will be a wonderful experience.

Well, it is challenging ; especially for the first six months. You have to learn how to get a nice sound out of it but it is worth it because it is such a wonderful instrument.
Make sure you have lessons when you start. There is so much to learn when you strart. Practise every day for at least one hour and you will soon see progress.
Anybody who says it is easy probably sounds like rubbish and does not know it LOL

I think all musical instruments can be quite difficult ; they all have their own peculiar challenges. Don't worry about not having a "good ear".....I didn't when I started but you soon develop one. I think the violin is great for developing the ear ; much better than the piano.

Have a go...you will love it.

yes you definately should. i started playing the viola in 5th grade then switched to viola in 8th grade. sure, i guess its easy to play, but its not easy to make it sound great, you have to practice a lot, hold it the bow and instrument correctly, learn all the notes and keys, and correct your mistakes until you get them right.

It takes a lot of time and money. My friend plays it and she paid 3,000 for the violin itself and 200 a month for lessons. It IS hard and don't let anyone tell you differently. After about a year it gets easier though. For recitals you have to memorize the songs also

Violin is one of the hardest instruments. I would suggest cello, one of the easiest. (Flute and percussion are the easiest, but they're my least favorite...don't play them :-)

I played the violin as a child, I really learned to express myself through music as I was a shy person. You don't know unless you give music a try. You also learn by your mistakes made and continue on from anything you set your mind to do. I loved music so I never thought of it as something hard or difficult to do.Good luck, I know you will succeed in whatever you choose.

Go for it :]

I've played the violin for years now, and I love it. It's really an amazing instrument. The sound is beautiful, and once you get the hang of it, the sound really flows nicely.

However, it's often considered the most difficult instrument you can ever play. Even band instructors and players of woodwind / brasswind instruments have agreed to that. Playing the violin is strenuous, and can be painful. The technique is difficult to master, and some people really struggle with it.

However, it's DEFINITELY worth the effort. Playing the violin can help you in many ways; you'll become more musically inclined, you'll know more about the history of music and the current trends, and many schools will easily give you a scholarship if you're a violinist. It's not easy, but it's worth it

I hope you do end up playing it, and enjoying it. :]

its not really hard to play and not hard to learn but you should not expect things like learning to play it in a snap... playing recorder? you should try clarinet or wind/brass intruments wouldn't it be tough to change from wind to strings?
