if you are a conductor, or know alot about conductors, i need to know what would be the required education someone would have to go through to be one, like collage, special training and things like that. It depends at what level you want to conduct... If you want to conduct a school group, you need at least a bachelor's degree, with a music education certificate.
Most professional level conductors have an undergraduate degree in music (performance, or education, or theory, etc.) and then go on to pursue a graduate degree in conducting. You would want at least a masters degree to conduct a college level group. This may even suffice to work as a conductor for many professional orchestras. For the top groups you would likely want to go after your doctorate as well. Nowadays, a minimum of a Bachelors, college degree. Different schools have different requirements for conducting.
The best way for you to prepare yourself in high school, is to take courses(if offered) in: harmony, theory, and become proficient in some instrument or voice.
Good luck,
Wotan What do you want to conduct? Choir, orchestra, wind ensembles?
What level do you want to conduct? Public school? College? Community groups? Professional?
At the VERY least, you'll need a college degree in music (or music education, if public school conducting is what you're hoping for). I don't know how many conservatories offer undergrad degrees in conducting, but my guess is...not many. If you're looking for conducting at a "higher" level than high school, you should probably think about at least getting an MM in conducting (of your area of speciality) from a well respected school, and probably a DMA eventually.
You can start by taking ALL music classes that your high school offers (theory, sightsinging, music history, etc). Conductors tend to be among the most knowledgeable musicians out there. Good ones, at least. You'll need to have an incredible knowledge of repertoire...so start listening! For to be a conductor you must have experience in to collect ticket of pacenger and you have to experience about driving also. |
