I need to know THE NOTES AND FINGERINGS please. Starting with 4th finger G on the D string. what's fourth position? I have four tapes on my cello. One stands for 1st finger e , 3rd finger f#, one for 4th finger G, and one for first finger F#(on the D string) 4 0 1 2 4 1 3 4
G A B C D E F# G
up til D (4th finger on A-string), first position
then...
1 3 4
E F# G is fourth position
That is one octave.
If you need to go another octave, use this fingering:
(from the G in fourth position on the A-string)
G A B C D E F# G
4 1 2 1 2 1 2 3
hope this helps! Here you go
G-4
(cross strings)
A-0
B-1
C-2
D-4
(shift into Fourth Position)
E-1
F#-3
G-4
If you need one more....however doubtful....
(from G-4 in Fourth Position.....Whole-step shift)
A-1
B-2
(half-step shift)
C-1
D-2
(whole-step shift)
E-1
F#-2
G-3
Also there is one octave lower available to you on the cello
Open G-0
A-1
B-3
C-4
(cross strings)
D-0
E-1
F#-3
G-4
If you do that^^, then the first one, then the second one, you will have built a 3-octave G Major Scale.
Hope this helps
Have fun with your cello playing
:D
Addition:
Fourth position is where your thumb is in the little curve on the back of the neck and your first finger is right above that on the string side of the neck.
Ex:
on the G-string to play the equivalent of open D you put your thumb in the little curve there and then match the fingered note with the open D and you will have played in Fourth Position.
