Hello answerians!
I'm searching for a book on J.S. Bach music:
-I'm NOT interested in a biography. I want some insight/analysis of his music.
-I want something "simple". I like Bach but I am by no means an expert.
Thanks in advice for any help! edit: not pieces to play, just something to understand his music better Evening in the Palace of Reason - James Gaines, I think his name is.
Just finished reading the book myself. Gives some historical context, a small musical biography of the great man and an explanation of the many forms - canons, and the like.
A great book. The suggestion by "Taffers Boy" sounds like what you would be interested in; if it's a literary analysis. I wouldn't know.
If you're looking for his "easiest" pieces to play(your question was not really clear about this), his "Inventions" are regularly used for beginning students.
