Is Kawai Baby Grand Piano a quality instrument?

Is Kawai Baby Grand Piano a quality instrument?

Assuming that it is in good condition...then yes...it is a fine instrument. It also depends on personal taste. Most people prefer Steinways...but of course they carry a heftier price tag. Kawais are good instruments for the price.

It's no Steinway, but finely tuned it's decent.

Kawai grand pianos are quality instruments, they have a slightly heavier touch (meaning they're slightly more resistant) than yamaha (which is why some non-classical pianists dislike) and has a much warmer sound and tone colour. Whereas Yamaha has a much "brighter" sound, ligher keys. Kawai grands are consistent, regardless whether its a baby or concert. They are all well made.
Kawais are great because they are both reliable and durable, so you won't need to tune it as often as other pianos (this of course depends on the frequency of use)

When it comes to price: I personally recommend Kawai. Yamahas are overpriced for the quality of piano you get. You're basically paying for the brand name. With kawai, there's real value for what you're paying.

If you visit other dealers, they'll often bash Kawai for using "plastic" in the construction. All I'll say is don't take their word for gold. For one, its not plastic, and if you wan't advice about another piano brand, don't ask the salesman of a competing brand!

I'll conclude by saying that Kawai Baby Grands are indeed very good quality instruments. But finally, you're the pianist, and you've got your own preference. It doesn't matter what other "famous" pianist use. You should take a good look at all the brands, even steinways, even if its out of your price range. Get the general feel, sound and tone of different pianos. Make your decision based on that. Of course if you've already chosen Kawai, I'd say that you've made an excellent choice. Both price-wise and choice-wise.

Note - in general, my colleagues who are jazz pianists, tend to prefer Yamaha over Kawai, this is due to the genre they perform.

As a classical pianist, I personally prefer kawai, its sound and tone has got a lot of depth and warmth. Just try playing a Chopin Nocturne and you'll see what I mean.

I know my answer is long, but I really hope it helps.

I am a classical pianist and I prefer Yamaha, Steinway, and Bosendorfer over Kawai. I am also a piano tuner and Kawais are mean pianos to tune.

If I were to recommend any type of baby grand to buy in the affordable price range, go get yourself a Yamaha, a Boston, or an Essex. Boston and Essex are made by Steinway, but don't bear the name, and Yamaha has always made quality instruments.

In response to the user above, most classical pianists around this university like a lighter touch and a bright sound. Not as light a touch as Horowitz preferred, but still bearable.

yes it is
but check out other brands too, its all a question of preference!
