What is your favorite spymphonic piece?

(A sonata/overature/concerto a symphony plays)
And why?

Jean Sibelius's "Fourth Symphony". It admits one into the very essence of Sibelius's soul: it is so intimate, that at times it comes close to being embarrassing.

Wotan

Thank you. I honestly thought my choice would not stand any chance of your choosing it: the 4th is one of his lesser known and seldom played pieces. Reassuring am not alone here. appreciation. Report It

Spymphonic... is that like classical James Bond?

Beethoven's Sixth Symphony The Pastoral. Very relaxing and soothing music. Takes the stress away with this light and airy composition.

I'm kinda inexperienced in this area, but if I go back to school or take some classes it will be in music. I buy classical CD's to further my knowledge of composers etc.

What stands out is Beethoven's sonata No.8 in C minor-
Pathetique. It is simple and beautiful. It makes me think of happy times. I am taking piano and I am learning Greig's Morning. I am not sure if it fits in your catergories, but I like for the same reason...simple beauty.

Too bad classical music is not popular today. It unbelievable that people like Mozart and Bach actually wrote such music...I'm in constant awe. What gifts from God!!!

Beethoven's violin concerto. This is a monumental work. Some say it is the greatest concerto written for any instrument. A simply awesome piece of music.

Rodrigo's guitar concerto....Concierto de Aranjuez. I love this and so do many other people. It is often cited as the world's most popular concerto. Wonderful guitar work. (I once heard an arrangement of this piece for two guitars....mind boggling ; it was just great.)

Hand down Gustav Holst's Jupiter from his Planets Suite. ( I dance to this often. It feels so much like a warm spring or fall harvest festival. And it has all that good timpani thundering about.

Since I really can't pick just one I will follow it up with

Musgrave's "Journey Through A Japanese Landscape" with Evelyn Glennie on percussion. (Women are so over looked in classical composing and this piece is a knock-out"

Ravel's Bolero (my youth was surrounded with this piece)

Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue ( I dance to this one a lot)

Strauss's "Blue Danube" (Had to include a waltz)

and Stranvinsky's Rite Of Spring (his use of Bas
soon on those high notes is so haunting and no I do not think of dinosaurs every time I here it).

Lastly just about anything Sharon Isbin touches I love I am really hoping Steve Vai's blossom suite is on CD soon because I can't fin it anywhere.

New World Symphony by Dvorak

Symphonie Fantastique, by Hector Berlioz. I like the dark Romantic/Gothic sensibility. The music is thrilling and it exerted a huge influence on later composers.

beethovens 5th symphony 1st movement i love this peice but any thing beethoven is good to listen i also like moonlight sonata

Not very long plays for clavessin
