What are some names of famous classical french composers..?

help? :)

Let's add Guillaume de Machaut , Josquin Desprez , Francois Couperin , Francois Gossec, Hector Berlioz, Charles Gounod, Jacques Offenbach, Georges Bizet, Emmanuel Chabrier, Jules Massenet, Vincent d'Indy, and Ernest Chausson for a few more.

Musician, composer, teacher.

Jean Baptiste Lully (was born in Italy, but had success in France), Jean-Philippe Rameau, Cesar Frank, Camille Saint-Saens, Erik Satie, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Olivier Messiaen, and others...

I would add one, though most would probably not consider him to be "great".

I nominate him, only because he wrote what I feel is the greatest piece of organ music ever written. It is "stupendous": you'll love it. Check it out on You Tube(Amos Goldie)

Charles Marie-Widor: "Toccata"(the last movement, the 5th) from his "5th Organ Symphony".

Wotan

Don't forget Eugene Bozza!

Let鈥檚 add Josquin, Couperin, Charpentier, Massenet, Dukas, Faur茅 and Boulez. Perhaps Dutilleux and Koechlin too.

Poulenc, ugh, but nevertheless 鈥渇amous鈥?

And why no Var猫se? Or are we considering him an American composer? :-)

Franck was Belgian, by the way.
