What are two contrasting pieces for clarinet?

I'm considering auditioning for a few precolleges on clarinet. The thing is, they want two contrasting pieces to be performed [high level advanced ones] Does anyone have any reccomendations? Thanks!

I would prefer there to be no piano involved.

My first recomendation would be Brahms first clarinet sonata (there's a piano too so I don't know if it's ok if you edit and tell me it's not I think of something else without a piano). My second would be a fairly obscure piece named fantasy for clarinet by malcom henry arnold (I don't know much about him but I've heard quite a few of his works and he wrote a "fantasy" for quite a few instruments and I remember particularly liking the clarinet).

By high level advanced, I'm assuming you mean grade 5-7 (AMEB - i don't know what the equivalents would be).
Contrasting - I'd do a slow and a fast, possibly one major, one minor within those but really, up to you.
My Reccommendations would be:
Maple Leaf Rag (fast) - Joplin ...you can get that on 8notes.com
Sleeping Beaty Waltz - Tchaikovsky (temp di vaise, but upbeat so would contrast a slow passionate piece!)
Queen of the night aria (from magic flute) - Mozart (great piece, tempo allgro assai so fairly fast)
Piano Concerto no. 21 -mozart (I LOVE this piece... its andante, but very passionate, well thats how i see it. Not too difficult technique)
Queen of sheba - handel (difficult but if played well will work)
Fingals Cave - Mendelssohn (also great song. would work well ith the mozart concerto)

make sure not to contrast songs by same composer - not a good idea.

Good luck!

Here is a great list of clarinet repertoire by a college level teacher.

If nothing else it gives you a great listening list. Good luck with your audition.

The number of possible pieces is immense. I could be doing you a disservice by recommending some when so many others could be better for you.

Don't you have an instrumental teacher who knows far better than any of us what would suit you best?

I see that you get suggestions of TRANSPOSING pieces (arias, overtures, piano concertos...).
My suggestion would be Igor Stravinski - "Three pieces for clarinet solo" (the second and the third are very different).
