Questions about Violin Lessons !?!?

Hi everyone
I am looking for violin lessons and I am totally new to music.
And I want some advices:

1.)About my concentration on the lessons. How many hours per lesson would be the best? One hour per lesson, will it too short? Or Will two hours be too long?

2.)Normally, How many lessons per week will be good?

3.)As I am a totally new to music/violin, How can i tell the teacher is a good teacher or bad teacher?

Thanks a lot =D

well in my experiance i found when i was starting that half an hour per lesson is usally the norm, but with this you will need to put about an hour or so's practise a night. the problem is that as you go through the grades, the amount of time needed to practise increases by about 20 mins (depending on the technique/scale ect that you are practising. As you are a beginner 2 hours would be too much as you need to strengthen your arm and finger mscles muscles. (dont forget that the way a violin is played is very un-natural for the the body). the amount of lessons per week is up to you but again hour a week will suffice because it can take a good couple of weeks at least to memorise a scale, and to get the string crossings correct, so definatley stick with one a week. a to your final question, this will depend on you. violin teachers are like driving instructors, good for 1 person may not be good for another, so it will be very much trial and error. as an example i went through 3 teachers in my first year. so keep at it

Depends on your schedule, budget, and how fast you want to learn a certain violin piece.

I take 1 lesson a week but i'd say 3 lessons a week would be more effective.

["Advice" is singular, by the way; there is no word in English, "advices."]

For adults, a one hour per week lesson is normal. Children normally take a 1/2 hour, per week lesson (and perhaps a one hour group lesson, usually Saturday morning, and often twice a month, though a group lesson every week is better. Adults often will not do the group lesson.

O.K if you are new to learning an instrument than you have to start with a half hour a week because your brain will be fried otherwise. Then you can start building it up. The violin is a really hard instrument to learn and you will have to concentrate very hard.
Also you will become disheartened very quickly because everybody sounds crap when they begin but if you stick at it you will quickly become much better.
If you are an adult starting music lessons than a good teacher will be guided by what you want to do. You should come out of each lesson feeling that you learnt something and that you want to go home and practise!!
I hope this has been somewhat useful.
Good luck with your music.

I would go with 30 minutes per lesson ; one lesson per week.
You need plenty of time to practise what the teacher gives you each week. Progress on the violin is a bit slow at the start but hang in there ; it is a lot of fun. 30 minutes is plenty of time for the teacher to check you out each week and correct your problems

Here is a great website that you might find useful :

If you are making progress each month then your teacher is okay. Be patient and give it six months to evaluate the situation.
