which opera does (estelle a ),do not know the rest of the aria in Italion but in English it is (the stars are brightly shining)sung by a man in a prison cell waiting execution It seems to be "E lucevan le stelle" from Puccini's Tosca.
To Wotan: it's Manon Lescaut that good It's "E lucevan le stelle" from Tosca "Geglefly" is most probably correct; I don't know.
In case he isn't, you might try Beethoven's "Fidelio", or Puccini"s "Manon Lescout"(not sure about this spelling).
Wotan E lucevan le stelle, an aria by Giacomo Puccini from the opera Tosca. Sung by Mario Cavaradossi, a painter and Tosca's lover.
It is composed in the tenor voice and is sung when Mario is taken in to be executed.
It's key is B Minor :p
Libretto for the aria:
E lucevan le stelle,
ed olezzava la terra
stridea l'uscio dell'orto
e un passo sfiorava la rena.
Entrava ella fragrante,
mi cadea fra la braccia.
O dolci baci, o languide carezze,
mentr'io fremente le belle forme disciogliea dai veli!
Svan矛 per sempre il sogno mio d'amore.
L'ora 猫 fuggita, e muoio disperato!
E non ho amato mai tanto la vita!
Translation:
And the stars were shining,
and the earth smelled sweet,
the garden gate scraped,
and a step brushed the sand.
She came in, fragrant,
and fell into my arms.
Oh! sweet kisses, oh! lifeless caresses,
while I, trembling, unfastened the lovely features from her veil!
My dream of love has vanished forever.
The moment has passed, and I die in despair!
And I never have loved life so much! Yes, it is definitely the aria from Tosca. Its my favourite tenor aria. |
